Teeth Extraction
Sometimes, yes! Although, our priority is the preservation of natural teeth and we proceed to tooth removal only when all the therapeutic possibilities have been exhausted, sometimes it is required.
This can happen either because a tooth has an extensive decay that we cannot treat or because its root has been broken in an accident.
Tooth extraction is a relatively simple procedure done painlessly under local anesthesia with proper attention to wound care, medication, and healing.
Wisdom Teeth Extraction
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to emerge in the mouth. In many cases, their eruption is not possible and they remain in the jaw, so they are called impacted, or they partially erupt so they are called semi-impacted.
Wisdom teeth can cause problems that make extraction necessary, but they are often removed as a precaution when exams and X-rays suggest future issues.
When do we remove wisdom teeth?
- Pain due to inflammation in the tissues around the impacted tooth.
- Periodontal problems in the adjacent teeth because cleaning this area is difficult, resulting in plaque building up more easily.
- Risk of affecting the adjacent teeth due to the pressure exerted by the wisdom teeth, due to cysts that may develop, etc. Pressure on the adjacent teeth due to impacted or semi-impacted wisdom teeth that erupt at an angle (crooked) can result in orthodontic abnormalities.
Clinical examination and radiographic imaging of the wisdom teeth can assess and accurately predict the potential for immediate or future problems.
Early assessment and diagnosis in adolescence lead to more effective treatment.
The extraction is done with local anesthesia in the office and there is no pain during the operation. The dentist will give you instructions for the following days.
