The periodontist takes a graft of gingival tissue usually from the patient’s palate and places it in the area of the root that needs to be covered. The gingival graft is fixed with sutures and is gradually assimilated by the surrounding tissues.
The operation is simple and painless and is performed using magnification or a microscope, under local anesthesia and only requires a painkiller before the anesthesia wears off. The patient should expect slight swelling in the area for the first two days. The possibility of rejection of the transplant by the body is very small.
Of course, before starting this treatment, the necessary periodontal or other treatments must have been done.
This surgical procedure restores the loss of gingival tissue preventing at the same time further loss as well as restores the aesthetic image of the teeth.
